The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) assists eligible low-income households with their heating and cooling energy costs, bill payment assistance, energy crisis assistance, weatherization and energy-related home repairs.

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must need financial assistance for home energy costs.

For more information about LIHEAP:
You can call the National Energy Assistance Referral (NEAR) project. NEAR is a free service providing information on where you can apply for LIHEAP. You can speak to someone at NEAR Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. (Mountain Time).
You can:

Call the toll-free phone number at: 1-866-674-6327
send an e-mail to: energy@ncat.org
or you can contact your State's LIHEAP office

Program benefits vary greatly from state to state. Qualifying in another state does not automatically mean you will be able to receive the same level of help in Florida. The following is a summary of Florida's program:

Depending on the funds available in your county, you may able to apply for help up to three times a year - but not every month.
The program may help you pay your natural gas or propane bill only in the winter if you use gas or propane as your primary source to heat your home. If gas or propane is used only for purposes other than heating, such as hot water or cooking, the program can not pay for it.
The program can not pay for water, sewer and telephone services.
The local agency provider makes the payments directly to your utility company on your behalf.

Mission Statement: In collaboration with our public and private partners, assist the Governor in advancing Florida’s economy for every Floridian by championing the state’s economic development vision and implementing innovative initiatives to help citizens, communities, businesses and visitors thrive.
